New York Fashion Week wrapped up this week with the usual suspects present at every major show. NYFW isn't the most impressing when it comes to all of the fashion weeks. New York has a very tailored and classic approach. Being safe with tailored separates was the norm pretty much everyday. The shots above, however, stood out the most. Still very tailored, but fun prints and accessories made the outfits stand out much more. London Fashion Week is up next.

wanting winter

Right around this time of the year, when it's over 100 degrees and too hot to function, I start longing for winter. It's this time when my jackets suddenly look so gorgeous. Just hanging there, crying out to me. And I miss them. I just bought a denim jacket and destroyed the hell out of it. Then I put a patch that says "Eat Shit and Diet" on it, and just wait for the temperature to drop even the slightest so I can have any excuse to wear it. And for some reason lately I've been wanting a black faux fur goat hair coat. The kind that Jarvis Cocker wore in his Harry Potter cameo. Anyways, it seems tumblr agrees with me, since the only posts I've been putting on the tumblr blog are all about jackets: custom or otherwise.

the heat

The thing I really hate about summer (especially in LA) is it gets so freaking hot that sometimes I feel no need whatsoever to make an attempt at a good outfit. My sweaty palms are turned off by rings and bracelets and my kimonos lie unused. I think about putting on some boots and then think "why would I cover up my feet at all?" Normally what I would call laziness is just overtaken by the heat. Hopefully you're not feeling the same and will use these photos as some great inspiration for your summer outfits.

flannel/kimono

During these bipolar Spring days, there are two pieces of outerwear that I can always rely on. For the chillier days, a good flannel, and for warmer days, a kimono. My mind is already in summer mode, so I do need things that will cover me while I wait for the heat of summer to arrive. Flannels are always great, especially because you can find them anywhere, even at Goodwill. I rarely find flannel that's not in good condition. As for kimonos, they're usually a slight investment piece. A great vintage velvet burnout will definitely set you back a couple hundred, although there are lighter chiffon styles that you can find at Forever 21 under $40. But c'mon, vintage is sooooooooo much better.

diy

Interesting separates that I've been obsessing over lately. These were all found on tumblr, and tumblr really is a great way to get DIY inspiration. I just bought the golden tooth necklace from an online Etsy store. (Etsy....another great place!) Things that are DIY are just so much more amazing. You usually can't buy them and they are truly unique and one of a kind. Two of the most important aspects when buying clothes, in my opinion. Not to mention when someone asks you where you got that item and you say you made it yourself. It's really a great feeling.

coherent

Though none of these pictures have any coherency to them, there's some flawless self styling. All black, layering or a perfect dress, I truly believe if you gradually buy pieces that you find completely amazing, your style will show as much. Not settling for anything that makes you think twice. My personal rule is if you have a second thought, throw it out.

Coachella Street Style

Sorry for the short hiatus. First Coachella set me back, then I unfortunately caught the Coachella crud which set me back even further. Anyways, what better way to reminisce over Coachella than a street style post. Every year, Coachella go-ers are the ones with the spotlights on them. Designers from all over the world confess to looking at Coachella trends to decide what they will show the next season. Above are some of the photos that I had to take a second look at. 

out of the box

Haven't done a menswear post in a while. I love how the 90s trend isn't just a women's trend, but a lot of guys are catching on too. Well, a lot of brave guys at least. I think you'd have to be a pretty brave guy to wear something that most men won't. All I ever see guys wearing are plain t-shirts and jeans. It's nice to see some people stepping outside of the box.

SXSW

A couple of years ago, I visited Austin for the first time. I really didn't know what to expect, and honestly just thought "it's Texas, I'm not white, I'm a liberal, I might have a problem." Little did I expect that Austin is pretty much a mecca for bohemian, artsy and liberal types. Pretty much the only city in Texas like that, with the city's unofficial motto being "Keep Austin Weird." They call it weird, I call it rad. Anyways, with SXSW ending this past week, the weird awesomeness of Austin got a little bit bigger. Above are some street style shots from the festival, although honestly, you don't have to go for a festival to see some awesome style.

about face

Happy St. Patrick's Day. Maybe the street style post should feature more green, but anyways, another faceless post. Because I still like the idea. Some of these people think good style has to be accompanied by a model figure and a movie star face. Not true. I don't believe it. I don't think anyone should believe it. I don't think everyone should keep pushing it also.
