Clueless 90's (210)

If you are lucky to remember, the 90's began with grunge. And even though flannel shirts and shabby jeans denied fashion, their style made it to the pages of Vogue (with the help of Anna Sui, Marc Jacobs and Kurt Cobain, who, honestly, started the trend). Now grunge is coming back! Flannel shirts, entirely denim outfits, crop tops with oversized jackets were on the runway shows of Balmain, Phillip Lim, Acne and Marc Jacobs. If you are not sure what 90's fashion was, I suggest you look at Kurt Cobain and Gwen Stefani (old No Doubt stuff) or rewatch Beverly Hills 90210 and Clueless.

Target X Neiman Marcus

So a while back I reported that Neiman Marcus, Target and a ton of designers were all collaborating for a limited edition gift series. The collection was launched last Saturday and on Monday I went to my local Target and was pleased that pretty much everything was still there. I was a little disappointed that there weren't more clothes, but I did adore (and buy) a few things. The Marc Jacobs clutches were made of an extremely soft leather, there was a really rad Derek Lam skateboard, a Rag & Bone mens and matching kids cardigan and a series of Rag & Bone shot glasses. I purchased some Brian Atwood sunglasses reminiscent of Elton John in the 70s and the Rag & Bone flask. I always thought it was distasteful to buy a flask, but c'mon, a Rag & Bone flask. Enough said.

vanmildert

Alice by Temperley; Alice by Temperley; Vivienne Westwood; Marc by Marc Jacobs; Paul by Paul Smith; Vivienne Westwood

While looking at the Vanmildert online website, it's extremely hard to find one thing you like. I wanted to write this post and hoped to easily spend a quick minute looking for a couple things to feature, but that wasn't the case. I spent about two hours just looking at all the gorgeous clothing and accessories and trying to decide what not to buy. So be warned. I try not to feature items that are too expensive, but all the designer items on the site are far from that. It's mainly because Vanmildert features sister brands, which is why you find such amazing clothes at great prices. I'm too in love with Paul by Paul Smith, though. If you have to look at one thing, it's definitely Paul by Paul Smith.

Check out all the amazing brands HERE.

all of this i'll soon forget

Alright, so several pictures from the past few weeks. There's a driveway that kind of looks like every album cover of an indie band. You know what I mean? Anyways, a hilarious post it note above a street sign (although the best I've seen was the word 'Kony' in Sharpie written under a stop sign), some flower trims and a yin-yang button I picked up, a Marc Jacobs top I came across the next day (can you tell I'm loving daisies) and my pretty crappy alien nail art. As far as the nail art, I think I have a pretty valid excuse. I drank sooooo much coffee that day! And you should see me after a small cup, I start doing the Ian Curtis dance. I'm not saying I'm the best at this nail art stuff, but a while back I did some flame nails that I thought were pretty good. At least for an inexperienced artist, I considered them good. But believe me, these were total Monet's....amazing from afar, weird up close.

By the way, stay tuned for details on the giveaway. If you follow the facebook page, you know what I'm talking about.

Target X Neiman Marcus Video

So last week, I talked a little about the breaking news that was the new Target and Neiman Marcus collaboration. Along with 24 CFDA designers, including Rag and Bone, Marc Jacobs and Proenza Schouler, the collection features everything from clothes to home decor would hit stores December. Yesterday, a video was released interviewing a few of the designers and gives a little bit of an inside peek as to what we can expect. Though we are definitely far from a look book, it's the only bone they're throwing in our direction for now.

Target X Neiman Marcus

Insanely great news to report on! The fashion realm is buzzing about the new Target collaboration with Neiman Marcus and the CFDA. Basically Target and Neiman Marcus will be carrying specially designed pieces by the following brands (prepare to freak out):

Alice + Olivia
Altuzarra
Band of Outsiders
Brian Atwood
Carolina Herrera
Derek Lam
Diane von Furstenberg
Eddie Borgo
Jason Wu
Judith Leiber
Lela Rose
Marchesa
Marc Jacobs
Oscar de la Renta
Philip Crangi
Prabal Gurung
Proenza Schouler
Rag & Bone
Robert Rodriguez
Rodarte
Skaist-Taylor
Thom Browne
Tory Burch
Tracy Reese

Yeah. So each design house is creating 2-3 pieces that range from clothing (obviously) to home goods. The price range is from $7.99 to $499.99 with most of the items being $60 and under. Some of the brands we've already seen and loved at Target (Rodarte, Jason Wu, Proenza Schouler) while others we can't wait for (Alice + Olivia, Marchesa, Marc Jacobs, Band of Outsiders, Rag & Bone) then the few we don't give a shit about (Tory Burch, Judith Leiber). In the end, mark your calendars for Saturday December 1st, because I most certainly already have.

i can give you ice cream

Some photos from the past few weeks. My friend sent me a picture of the inside of some modeling agency he was at, very rad photos there. Then some weird Jesus/alien art near Little Tokyo in Downtown LA, Topshop socks I picked up at Fred Segal, a Marc Jacobs condom (seriously), and some good ol' fashioned Walgreens ice cream sandwiches. They're supposedly the best ice cream sandwiches, and they're pretty good, but then again, I don't eat enough ice cream sandwiches to say what's "best." Anyways they're a great way to keep cool and to satisfy a sweet craving at the same time. Oh, and please excuse my butchered thumb nail in the Topshop socks photo. I was in the middle of doing them when I just decided to stop. Whatever.

because you're mine, i walk the line

Charlotte Ronson

Theyskens' Theory

Rachel Roy

Marc Jacobs

Libertine

Some of my favorite brands that have shown so far from New York Fashion Week and some of my favorite looks from each. I love how Charlotte Ronson always appeals to that edgy, slightly hipster girl that wants to stand out of a crowd. Olivier Theyskens with his new collection for Theory seriously appeals with his all black, slightly pristine looks. Rachel Roy bringing out the inner prep-school style of a rock 'n roll chick while bringing out the inner rock 'n roller of a preppy girls style. Marc Jacobs mixing the completely random and insane with pieces that you will see EVERYONE wearing in another year (notice that buttoned shawl, so chic yet safe to appeal to the masses). And last, but definitely not least, the underrated Libertine continuing with iconic prints in new styles. Loving/hating the NYFW overload I've been experiencing. Hopefully I'll be in the spirit by the time Paris Fashion Week rolls around.

P.S. Happy Singles Awareness Day!!!

i've got the feeling of love

Some photos from a recent trip to Melrose. Window shopping is close to impossible with all the cool window designs and displays. I think the first photo is a Banksy, but I'm not 100% sure.

stole my heart

Diane von Furstenberg; Marc by Marc Jacobs; Gucci F/W 2011; Zara; Asos

While there are many coat styles this season, the one I've fallen for is the fur stole. I have many (many, many) coats and last September I found a faux fur stole at H&M. Although it was quite hot at the time (LA summer doesn't end until about late October), the thought of the Gucci F/W runway for the season came to mind. I had to buy that stole, so I did. The great thing about it is it easily goes over any coat (collarless, of course) and transforms any plain coat into one of the seasons "hottest" styles (pun, *cough*cough*). Anyways, what makes these fur stoles instead of fur collars or scarves, is the fur stole has to go over the shoulders, just in case you didn't know.
