Muse Monday: The Plastiscines

Plastiscines

This weeks Muse (or Muses) is the all girl French rock band the Plastiscines. Personally I love this band and I have from the very beginning. They got their start to indie fame when the editor-in-chief of Nylon magazine Marvin Scott Jarrett found the band and started constantly featuring them in the magazine and on Nylon's website back in 2006. When Jarrett decided to start a record label under the Nylon name, he signed the Plastiscines as their first act. This gave the band more attention and their songs became constant background music in the show Gossip Girl as well as even performing their song "Bitch" on an episode. Their single "Barcelona" was also Single of The Week on iTunes back in 2010. Although they have only released two albums and no new songs have been released since 2010, I can't wait for the band to release a new album and start touring again.

NYFW 2012 Street Style Pt. 2

The last of the New York Fashion Week street style posts. I've noticed most of the street style is about perfecting the art of layering (which if you've tried, you know it's a complicated art). It's about trying to add to simplicity without looking like you've added 20 pounds. But even if you're not layering, just having some stand-out pieces (like neon sweaters or a unique coat) really do take your look a long way. Until next August, New York Fashion Week.

great western wind

Just bought these kick-ass shades yesterday. For years I literally couldn't get my black Ray-Ban Wayfarers off my face (I lost them three times too!), but I would keep buying sunglasses that just sat around collecting dust. Not only that, I really couldn't find a pair of vintage sunglasses that 1. appealed to my specific taste 2. weren't ridiculously overpriced and 3. actually looked good with my face shape. Then I found these at the vintage heaven Virgo in Downtown LA. I love the old Western vibe they have. I can't wait to break these bad boys in.

Coachella Outfit Day Two

Coachella Outfit 2

My second day outfit for Coachella. Although I am quite positive about what I'm wearing to the festival this year, I think I may end up wearing this for Day one. Still not sure, but anyways, I wanted to show the hi-lo trend that I've been in love with lately with a UNIF chiffon skirt that looks like the one above. I thought a bustier would look good, but I definitely want to keep it all black (although in 100 degree weather that might not be smart). Bringing my water bottle with a built in filter and some Dr. Scholls gellin inserts that will save my feet that weekend. Also wearing my Theyskens' Theory bag which looks like the one above, but with a really cool strap detail. Topshop accessories are the main thing with this outfit: arm cuffs, hand armor, and stackable rings. So excited for the festival.

Rag and Bone

Creatures Of  The Wind

Karen Walker

Band of Outsiders

Christian Cota

Some more of my favorite looks from NYFW. I swear it's my last for NYFW, I just absolutely loved the looks above. Especially from Christian Cota and Creatures of The Wind which are still up and coming design labels, but have so much talent behind them. Definitely some serious stand out pieces from their collections this Fall.

because you're mine, i walk the line

Charlotte Ronson

Theyskens' Theory

Rachel Roy

Marc Jacobs

Libertine

Some of my favorite brands that have shown so far from New York Fashion Week and some of my favorite looks from each. I love how Charlotte Ronson always appeals to that edgy, slightly hipster girl that wants to stand out of a crowd. Olivier Theyskens with his new collection for Theory seriously appeals with his all black, slightly pristine looks. Rachel Roy bringing out the inner prep-school style of a rock 'n roll chick while bringing out the inner rock 'n roller of a preppy girls style. Marc Jacobs mixing the completely random and insane with pieces that you will see EVERYONE wearing in another year (notice that buttoned shawl, so chic yet safe to appeal to the masses). And last, but definitely not least, the underrated Libertine continuing with iconic prints in new styles. Loving/hating the NYFW overload I've been experiencing. Hopefully I'll be in the spirit by the time Paris Fashion Week rolls around.

P.S. Happy Singles Awareness Day!!!

Muse Monday: Charlotte Gainsbourg

Charlotte's show

This week's muse is singer/actress extraordinaire Charlotte Gainsbourg. The offspring of mega-singer Serge Gainsbourg and model Jane Birking, Charlotte Gainsbourg has some incredible genes. Whether she's singing at Coachella or promoting a film at Cannes Film Festival, Gainsbourg has conquered both acting and singing. Winner of a Cesar (the French equivalent of the Oscars) for Best Actress and the recent release of a third album is making Charlotte quite appealing to some. Nicholas Gesquiere, head designer of Balenciaga, made her the face of the fashion house's only fragrance and is quick to call her muse. This week, Charlotte Gainsbourg is our Muse as well.
