This week's Muse is child star turned fashion icon/designer Mary-Kate Olsen. Immediately I assume you're wondering why I didn't put both the Olsen sisters in this post, and let me explain myself. Mary-Kate has much more attitude than her sister when it comes to style. Much bolder, Mary-Kate has perfected the cool casual look in her everyday wear, still managing to start trends, while her red carpet looks are very daring. While they may both be ridiculed by the media that just doesn't seem to get it, what's important is the right people get it. Olsen's brands The Row and Elizabeth and James have taken off, the latter being one of my personal favorites. The Row recently made headlines with the release of their $55,000 backpack as seen above, covered in Hollywood-loving pills such as Ritalin and Vallium. It's making a statement while saying nothing. Brilliant.

verameat
The more different and unique something is, the better it is, in my opinion. Verameat is one of the most unique jewelry brands I have ever seen or bought from. Two headed dinosaur? Check. Hipposhark? Check. Lion and octopus fight? Check. Above are some of my favorite designs from the lovely and bizarre brand. Check out all their other jewelry HERE.

Rodarte X Starbucks
If there's anything that I love more than clothes, it's probably Starbucks. I'm that person who walks into Starbucks, everyone greets me, and I don't have to say anything because I have a "usual" drink. Don't think I'm exaggerating either. I was absolutely shocked when I walked into Starbucks and saw a big Rodarte X Starbucks section. The collection is only what's pictured above, but all the items are on sale right now. The ceramic cup with plastic lid is $7.99 and the sleeve is $2.99. I'm going back today now that I've strategically thought about what I'm going to buy.

chill
I feel like LA is one of the last places to get winter. I think Miami may beat us, but it only got cold in the last few weeks. Like this week it's fuckin' cold, so I thought it was appropriate to do a really winter themed street style post. I like layering tights with socks to put under my shorts, because it's still LA, and I wear shorts year round. An oversized coat tops it off and I'm usually out the door.

Lookbook: Now That's What I Call Fashion
My favorite store Wasteland has a new lookbook out that is totally rad, in a really weird way. I feel like saying its 90s themed is an understatement. Extremely 90s, is a bit closer to describing it. Neon, Lisa Frank, Hello Kitty, colored lipstick, everything about it just exudes that bizarre 90s look. Beyond the grunge trend that has been slowly creeping its way through, this is a bit out there.

UNIF "Nothing Lasts Whatever"
One of my absolute favorite brands UNIF has come out with a new lookbook video for their holiday collection "Nothing Lasts Whatever." This video, and all of the past ones, perfectly combine that tough rock 'n roll aesthetic with a perfect amount of feminism. The rad music in the background, the fucked up clothes and the beautifully desolate background make for a perfect lookbook.

soft grunge
A while ago on Tumblr I was first introduced to the terms "soft grunge." A bit of an oxymoron, I thought off the top of my head, but it seemed to be catching on. Nevertheless, I'm very anti-oxymoron and I never used it, although next thing I know, it was spreading like wild fire. From my understanding, soft grunge was a mixture of very feminine with the very tough/punk/grunge look. The poster child for this look was Sky Ferreira, and for good reason. She has very feminine, soft features, but is always wearing some motorcycle jacket or combat boots. The term soft grunge was stuck to her, and her stuck to the term. What was hilarious to me was about a month ago, Sky (who I "liked" on facebook) posted "what the hell is soft grunge?" Haven't heard about soft grunge since.

Lookbook: Twice My Burn
I feel like Jeffrey Campbell lookbooks are campaigns with ADD and have taken one too many Ritalin. And some crack. They're all over the place, very non-cohesive, and slightly in your face. Their new lookbook "Twice My Burn," is a lot like the others, nevertheless, there are certain things I love about this lookbook. First, the names of all the shoe styles are right in your face. Second, all these trends I love are being displayed like the hologram, 90s and boho trends. Lastly, it looks like the photographer was on crack.

Daryl K. X Steven Alan
One of my favorite designers Steven Alan has teamed up with designer Daryl K. for a collaboration exclusive to Steven Alan stores and online. I love how minimalist the collection is, but theres still such a cool rock 'n roll vibe to it. Like I imagine Patti Smith would dig this collection. I'm swooning (and saving) for those western boots in the first pic.

Clueless 90's (210)
If you are lucky to remember, the 90's began with grunge. And even though flannel shirts and shabby jeans denied fashion, their style made it to the pages of Vogue (with the help of Anna Sui, Marc Jacobs and Kurt Cobain, who, honestly, started the trend). Now grunge is coming back! Flannel shirts, entirely denim outfits, crop tops with oversized jackets were on the runway shows of Balmain, Phillip Lim, Acne and Marc Jacobs. If you are not sure what 90's fashion was, I suggest you look at Kurt Cobain and Gwen Stefani (old No Doubt stuff) or rewatch Beverly Hills 90210 and Clueless.

Muse Monday: Karlie Kloss
This week's Muse is the beautiful Karlie Kloss. At only 20 years old, it's rightful to say Kloss has conquered the fashion world. Besides the hundreds of shows she's been in (the most famous and most recent being the Victoria's Secret show), Kloss has been the star of several notable ad campaigns including Gucci, Valentino, Louis Vuitton, Alexander McQueen, Yves Saint Laurent, Dior, Versace, Givenchy and is the face of the Marc Jacobs perfume 'Lola.' The list goes on and on, but just assume that every major fashion brand, Kloss has done ads and walked for. She has classic style as well as a classic look, and is sure to be one of the few models who will still be around for years to come. With her notoriety and the backing of every fashion brand that we know and love, Kloss is the definition of a modern day Muse.
